 Beers & Ciders

What's a beer? Is an ale a beer? Is a lager a beer? Is a cider a beer? If you want to go on a very deep dive, we recommend the Beer Advocate website linked on the guide home in the thanks section. They have a wiki that goes deep on all the beer types. But here's what you need to know about our beers.

  1. We serve four "beers," consisting of a lager, ale, cider, & stout. These are our Irontoe Brewery beers.

  2. We additionally serve two sake from

  3. Lagers are brewed using bottom-fermenting yeast & are fermented & conditioned slowly at cool temperatures in tanks or casks, resulting in a clean, crisp beer with moderate to high carbonation & a refreshing, bubbly mouthfeel. Examples: Heineken, Budweiser.

  4. Ales are brewed using top-fermenting yeast and are fermented at warmer temperatures, typically in tanks or casks, resulting in a fuller-bodied beer with fruity or complex flavours and moderate carbonation. Examples: Sierra Nevada, Newcastle Brown Ale.

  5. Stouts are brewed using top-fermenting yeast and are fermented at warmer temperatures, typically in tanks or casks, resulting in a dark beer with rich roasted flavours like coffee, chocolate, or caramel; while some stouts are smooth and creamy, others can be lighter and drier in body, with moderate to low carbonation. Examples: Guiness, Murphy's.

  6. Ciders are fermented beverages made from apple juice or other fruit juices using yeast, typically fermented at cool to moderate temperatures in tanks or casks, resulting in a crisp, fruity drink that can range from dry to sweet with light to moderate carbonation. Examples: Strongbow, Somersby.

  7. We have sake, but it is not listed on the menu. We do not serve kanzake (heated) sake; ours are served reishu (chilled) or hiya (room temperature).

 Spirits & Wines

What's a spirit? What's a wine? The answer is easy: Spirits are made from grains, fruit, or vegetables, and wine is made from grapes. Spirits often have high alcohol values and are rarely drank straight -- though every role-player's gonna order a shot of whiskey or vodka. They always do.
